Recently, several members of the Minnesota Valley Photography Club paid a visit to the Rosecrest Alpace ranch.
Thanks to Ron, Kathy, and Victoria Kasten for taking the time to show us their alpacas and allowing us to photograph them in a variety of settings.
Since we were there until sunset we were able to take advantage of the warm, late day light and got some excellent images.
On this page you'll find a few of the over 400 images Pat and I captured.
The two crias, Sir Knightly and Prince Raphael, are 13 and 9 days old respectively. They look almost alike and love to run around the paddock and play.
The alpacas are like big (200 pound), curious dogs.
You'll see from some of the images just how friendly they are - following Victoria around and letting Kathy get up close for a nuzzle.
They were also very curious about the odd people with cameras, and a couple came up to me as I sat on the ground.
I have several series of images where I had to stop shooting because the subject got too close to focus, and to prevent an alpaca nose from hitting the end of the lens.
In the last year and a half I've been knocked down by a wild horse, chased by an alligator, and kissed by an alpaca... Twice! Maybe I
should stick to photographing flowers. They just sit there quietly and let you shoot them...
